Spitalfields: rich in history, buzzing with contemporary culture and host to London’s most creative music Festival.

Spitalfields Festival should be praised to the rooftops. So much of its planning and feel is intelligent, and it embraces community in its widest sense. And then there are the wonderful buildings in that part of the city, not least Christ Church, in all its renovated splendour.

The Independent June 2006

Founded in 1976 with an Education & Community Programme established in 1989, Spitalfields Festival has flourished and now encompasses a three-week Festival in June, a ten-day Festival in December and a year-round programme of education and community work.

The Festival is well-known for programming an eclectic mix of concerts and events, designed to reflect the area and communities in which we are based. The Festival prides itself on the quality of its programming, with concerts covering a broad range of western classical music, from early music through to the newest of new music.

This year, Spitalfields Festival will bring alive a host of East London venues with classical music, cutting-edge contemporary sounds, jazz and Chinese music, alongside 'Voice' - a weekend of singing. Whether you experience a concert in the evocative atmosphere of Wilton's Music Hall, the splendour of Christ Church or the more intimate surroundings of Shoreditch Church; whether you stumble across an event in Spitalfields Market or whether you join in a workshop you are sure to find something to move, entertain or inspire you.

In the heart of East London, Spitalfields is an area of constant change, with a wealth of history and diversity, and surprises around every corner; where 18th century architecture meets 21st century living; where east meets west. Spitalfields Festival is one of a kind: more than a music festival, more than a community programme.

Listen. Be inspired.
